MIDI files of commercial songs are created by musicians and engineers who are skilled at re-interpreting a song into MIDI form, and it's not a process that can be done automatically. A stereo mp3 file contains only two tracks with multiple instruments mixed down from the original multi-track recording. They cannot be separated into the individual tracks required by the multi-track midi format nor can the mp3 format be accurately converted to midi format. The MIDI files are small programs that incorporate a number of commands to determined keyboards. They do not contain "real" sound, so they are not sound files. When recording live in a studio, real quality and professional midi files can do a great job. With proper equipment, they can replace any musician or group of musicians.
